Chemin de la Chaussée

Tél : 03 44 62 38 38
http://www.lechateaudelatour.fr/fr/

This is a favorite of ours going back at least 15 years.

From their Website:  Nestled in the heart of 12 acres of luscious parkland, 3km from Chantilly and 35km to the North of Paris, the Château de la Tour is a true haven of tranquillity where time seems to stand still... an exquisite early 19th Century home, the Château is a blend of elegance, comfort and conviviality, making for a memorable experience. With 41 rooms of exceptional comfort, a restaurant and bar each with a terrace overlooking the grounds, an outdoor heated pool, tennis courts, a fitness trail and 2 massage rooms, come and experience the Château’s authentic charm for yourselves.

History:  This tasteful Anglo-Normand home was built at the beginning of the 19th Century by a distinguished family of Parisian bankers, who wanted to take advantage of the enchanting, lush green oasis just outside the capital.

Requisitioned during the Second World War, it was in 1946 that the property was first converted into a Hotel Restaurant. The Château quickly became the place to be for anyone who was anybody in Paris, its convivial allure enticing the likes of Edith Piaf, Tino Rossi and Jean Gabin for whom the Château soon became a favourite haunt.

In 1972 the establishment was bought by Roland and Jeanne Jadas, and its doors re-opened only in 1974, after many long months of refurbishment works.  In 1990, at the initiative of the current owner, François Jadas, the historic part of the building was also renovated. Completely in keeping with the original style, the Château’s facilities were expanded to include 41 guest rooms, new function and seminar rooms, an English-style bar and a heated pool just to top it all off.

Perpetuating the traditional values of welcome and quality at the heart of the French independent hotel trade, the Château has experienced an impressive rise in popularity over the years.

In 2011, the owner’s eldest daughter, having taken over the running of the place, also decided to instigate a number of renovations, adding a further touch of femininity to the ancestral home.

From their Website:  Welcome to the most idyllic Bed and Breakfast – or Chambres d’hotes, as we call it here, in the Dordogne: Chateau Lalinde. The experienced traveller can become jaded with superlatives used to attract visitors.  Chateau Lalinde needs none. Situated on the Dordogne River, it is the perfect place for whatever event or activity holiday you are planning - or just for total relaxation in a stunning setting.  The chateau gives you a perfect base for:
  • a golfing holiday
  • canoeing on the Dordogne
  • hiking
  • cycling
  • fishing
  • to explore the area's history and pre-history
  • to enjoy wine tasting
  • sample some of the best food in France
  • as a  venue for a  small conference, seminar or speciality courses
  • a family reunion
  • a wedding party
  • an incentive get-away for employees
  • a board of directors’ meeting or retreat
  • team building workshops
It is the only chateau that  actually ‘stands with its feet’ in the Dordogne River and the owner has created an ambiance to match this unique feature – a sense of style, comfort and understated luxury that is inviting and intimate - simply perfect.
Avoiding the museum-like clichés of many other historic chateaux and dwellings, Chateau Lalinde is a beautiful private home --- and one you can make ‘yours’ for the dream chateau home-stay in a wonderful location.

There is a legend in the Dordogne that goes like this:

When the Creator had made the earth and the mountains and the rivers and the plants and animals and the First Man and First Woman, he was pleased with his work. And like any creator of beautiful things, he wanted to add the last touch to make it perfect. So he sent an angel to the earth with a big bag of precious stones and instructed him to scatter the gem stones all over the earth. Wherever the stones fell, a beautiful chateau would appear and serve as homes for Man and Woman.
The angel started over Russia, scattering a handful of the precious stones here and there. He then flew over Eastern Europe, again scattering a handful here and there. When he flew over Germany and Austria, he felt a little more generous -- as the bag was also starting to feel heavy and the sun was setting in the west. Next he flew over France, and, getting a little tired, he stumbled over a sun ray, spilling half his bag of gem stones over the Loire valley.
Now only the most precious stones were left. And that was when he flew over the lovely Dordogne River. He thought it so beautiful and worthy of the very best, that he decided to empty the entire bag of precious stones along the length of the Dordogne Valley.
And the most beautiful little gem landed on the edge of the water in Lalinde….
The pool area on the side of the chateau is walled and gives total privacy. The infinity pool creates a feeling of swimming right on the edge of the river itself -- it is not heated, but enjoys full sun and the water is a comfortable temperature throughout summer. The pool is equipped with an alarm for safety.
"……The sense of the surreal persisted as I was led into the most beautiful bedroom I have ever stayed. The shutters were thrown back and the sound of rushing water filled the room. There were no other houses in sight, only the forest opposite, with the glimpse of an old stone chapel on the crest of the hill……Over the few days I was in the Dordogne, I decided it offered more than any other region I had visited in France…… the highlight was staying in the magical Chateau Lalinde which made me feel, for a few days, like a princess."
A complimentary glass of wine awaits guests upon arrival.

There are fresh flowers in each room, as well as a file with brochures and information about the local area.
If guests have specific interests, they will be provided with the necessary information about availability, access and bookings. Itineraries can be planned to best benefit from  the variety of activities and sights in the area and the time available. The property is cleaned before arrival of guests and/or once per week.  A cleaning fee is charged for cleaning after departure of a group of 5 or more.  If any extraordinary cleaning over and above normal cleaning is required after guests have left, this will be deducted from the security deposit. Daily or extra cleaning required by guests during stay, i.e. daily maid service is available at €12 per hour. Clean fresh towels are provided daily. Babysitting can be arranged. A cot is available as well as a high chair. Conference/meeting room equipped with LDC projector, flip chart/white board. A dry cleaner is 50 meters away, Pool towels available, Pool not heated.

This family were responsible for the construction of the Paris to Toulouse railway, as well as the Toulouse to Foix, and Foix to St Girons railways. Until recently the Chateau boasted its own railway station. This family also owned many farms and other properties in this area. However, following the death of the last elderly resident, ownership of the Chateau was mysteriously transferred to the existing caretaker. Although challenged in court, his ownership was upheld. However, the Chateau then fell into disrepair.
It was purchased in 1990 by a single family, using it as a summer home, but at the same time arranging expert renovation of all the main rooms. From 2000 to 2005, the use of the Chateau was changed to a hotel and restaurant.
From 2005, the current owners have used the Chateau solely as their family home, but occasionally renting the entire Chateau to offset running costs.

This was an opportunity for which he had been waiting for years!  So on 21 July 1981, he purchased the Château d'Esclimont from the granddaughter of Edouard de La Rochefoucauld, the Comtesse Laure-Suzanne-Marie-Maingard de Mailly et de Nesle d'Orange.  He was also lucky enough to acquire part of the paintings, chandeliers, trinkets and furniture that adorned the château at the same time.

From their Website: I have included this hotel, NOT because it is a Chateau, because it isn’t.  The location however of  Hotel Le  Relais Saint-Michel to Mont-Saint Michel is second to none.  Typically you might only want to spend a half-day on the Mont, but some like to really dive in to the entire experience from walking on the sand while the tide is out, to watching the tide come in at the end of the day.  The experience is truly awesome and thought by including a hotel so close to the action, some might just prefer this location.

At the heart of a peaceful village, Located in Seine et Marne, set in the greenery alongside the Ourcq canal, in the countryside, rediscover the unique atmosphere from an old time refuge, associated with hotel service that will satisfy the strictest requirements!

A bit of history - If someone were to tell me the tale of Gressy-en-France… it would be the story of a village from old France. Once upon a time there was a place where people had lived since the dawn of history ... whose name comes from the Latin "Gratiacum" - place of grace, meaning an enjoyable area. Who could doubt that, walking around this village enshrined in its green jewel box, with its streams and waterfalls, its birds and flowers? In 1180 Raúl de Gressy, the minor lord of this blessed area, founded the church dedicated to St. Denis, his daughter Eustachie continued his work.

The church includes two very beautiful tombstones from the start of the 13th century; classified: these are of the founders. It was in the middle of the great century of Louis IV that the Frémont family appeared, originating in Normandy. They acquired the fiefdoms of Gressy-en-France and Moulignon (the mill) on the Beuvronne. This was done by Robert de Frémont and his brother Nicolas, the minister of Colbert. In his memoirs, the Duke of Saint Simon (in the family since his mother-in-law was none other than Geneviève de Frémont, a woman of great beauty, the wife of Guy de Durfort, the Duke of Lorges and Marshal of France), says of Nicolas that he was considered to be "the richest man in France". Robert, who found the castle that was located just next to the fortified farm (the current site of Manoir de Gressy ) very uncomfortable , constructed a large bourgeois home "Clairefontaine" to house his wife and six children.

He designed a park with many trees and in it dug canals following a proposal by Le Notre. Their coat of arms: "Azure with three Gold Leopard heads, placed two and one". The following landholders in the fiefdom of Gressy (Les Pons Saint Maurice) would be close friends with "Carmontelle" this worldly artist who had astonished the court of the Duke of Orleans and who "sketched" the characters so perfectly with his pen not only in his proverbs (and type of comedy) , and transparent dramas (sort of Chinese shadow theater) but also in his portraits. He also liked to draw gardens and parks. He stayed in Gressy-en-France many times both at Clairfontaine and at Comte de Pons. At the same time, Pierre Joseph Macquer and his brother came to stay in Calirefontaine. He accumulated responsibilities and also became the "royal censor", meaning that he was in charge of examining the interest and merit of scientific discoveries proposed to the King. He worked much with Lavoisier and together they perfected the burning glass, the first solar oven. A chemist at the Sevres plant, king Louis XV charged him with determining the composition of hard porcelain, the secret of which was jealously capped by the Chinese. He succeeded in this task in 1769. It was also at Gressy that he experimented with the art of dying silk, and thus reddening the waters of the Beuvronne many times (he was accused of this section by the inhabitants of Gressy!)

At Clairfontaine, he also created a small laboratory and a botanical garden with exotic trees some of which are still present today. He was a magnificent experimentalist and it would take too long to list all of his discoveries. It should also be noted that one of his books he wrote- the Guide du Naturaliste (the Naturalist's Guide), with a preface by Buffon who was a friend of his - was to amuse the reader all while educating him. Also at that time there were three mills: The Moulignon mill, the Rouge mill, and a windmill located on the plain, all were very active... which is not surprising for this plain in France whose fertility is well-known. After the revolutionary tumult (the destruction was widespread, including the castle... which was partially rebuilt into the current Townhall) calm returned to the small village of Gressy which went to sleep for a while.

Just 25 minutes from Paris and Chantilly, a mere 8 minutes from Paris Roissy CdG International airport and15 minutes from Disneyland Paris®, imagine a quiet and charming countryside property with discreet luxury, dedicated to your comfort on grand occasions or weekend's time escapades …
